"California Vibes" represents a long distance relationship brought on by one partner choosing to follow their dreams, and realizing that the dream fell short.
After falling in love with Hippo Campus, I noticed how they reference/mirror their vocals melodies in guitar parts and I wanted to try to do the same.
Fun fact: Matt originally sang the song, but since the lyrics of the song referenced the failing idea of the American Dream, Egor seemed to be a better fit. Egor is typically a soft singer, so when he laid down these intense vocals, we were all in shock.
